Maria Carla Pino Cury is a Brazilian/Chilean coloratura soprano born in 1990. Her parents were musicians and she played the piano, violin and harp before choosing singing as her main subject, first at the Paraíba State University and then at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. In 2018 she gained her master’s degree from the Basel College of Music. At the Basel Opera she has sung the roles of Lucia in Britten’s Rape of Lucretia, Papagena in Mozart’s Magic Flute and Serpina in Pergolesi’s La serva padrona. She is currently working at the Düsseldorf Opera, where her roles have included Tebaldo in Verdi’s Don Carlos, the Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, the Princess in Lange’s Snow Queen and Papagena in Mozart’s Magic Flute.
