Bryan Murray is a baritone from the USA, born in 1989. He is currently attached to the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and this season he has sung smaller roles in ten different productions. He gained his master’s degree from the opera faculty of Yale University. Solo roles that he has performed include Papageno in Mozart’s Magic Flute, Smirnov in Walton’s opera The Bear and Almaviva in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro as well as Demetrius in Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Father in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel and a Consul in Pier Francesco Cavalli’s Eliogabalo. In Robert Ward’s opera The Crucible he sang the role of John Proctor both in performance and on a recording issued in 2017. His repertoire also includes orchestral works such as Bernstein’s Opening Prayer, Fauré’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Orff’s Carmina Burana and contemporary compositions including Robert Kyr’s Transfiguration, at the first performance of which he sang.
