The Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition begins May 20 - French soprano Marianne Croux will be opening the competition  

The eighth Mirjam Helin Competition will begin May 20 with the performance of French soprano Marianne Croux. The first competition week includes four days of preliminary rounds and Singers' Studio on Wednesday May 22 starring jury member Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.  

The competitors registered today afternoon at the Helsinki Music Centre, after which a ballot was organised to decide the order of perfomance during the competition. Marianne Croux will open the competition. The other competitors will then perform in aplhabetical order and the order of performance will remain the same throughout the competition. The preliminary rounds start on Monday May 20 at 11 am Finnish time (10 am CEST) and 6 pm Finnish time (5 pm CEST), and last until Thursday May 23. You can follow the competition live and recorded on the competition site mirjamhelin.fi. 

The competitors proceeding to the Semifinals will be announced in the evening of May 23.
