One of the leading international singing competitions. Many of its former prizewinners have risen to the top of the world of singing. Designed for outstanding young singers, it is known for its high standard, exacting repertoire, superb prizes and prestigious Jury.

Some of the world’s best young singers will be gathering in Helsinki next spring for the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition. Now to be held for the eighth time, the competition will take place at the Helsinki Music Centre on May 20–29. There are separate categories for men and women and a total of €173,000 will be awarded in prizes.

Matija Meić gazes happily round the Helsinki Music Centre. It was here that he was awarded the second prize for men in the 2014 Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, and it was to this hall that he returned in spring 2016 as the soloist with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In August, he once again entered the by now familiar glass cube on his way back from Rauma Festivo, to which he had been invited by Finnish bass Mika Kares.
